Best Bible Ever!!!
A great book for teens
The coolest teen Bible you'll findQuite frankly, this is a fun Bible. It's colorful, visually appealing and is cool enough for teens to throw into their book bags and take with them. I highly recommend it for any teen.

Not what I hopedThat said, I had to order this book blind...and have been subsequently disappointed. Though I found some of his tips interesting, by and large, I have not gained much from his nine steps in terms of short-term or long-term relief. During my most recent TMS attack, I perused his book and employed all his techniques with an open mind. However, they did not seem to help at all. In the end, I resorted back to rereading Dr. Sarno's book again, which seemed to help more. You see, when I read Dr. Sarno's book, I really feel like he knows what he is talking about. His writing style exudes knowledge and wisdom, so it's easy to respect and trust his thoughts and ideas. However, Fred Amir's writing style is a little too gushing for me. Many sections read like an infomercial "This worked for me! Just wait until you see what it can do for you!" It's simply overdone and in some ways infantile, so it's hard for me to have the same confidence in his ideas as I do in Dr. Sarno's. Ironically, I silently wonder if Dr. Sarno does not feel the same way. Fred Amir acknowledges Dr. Sarno's help in proofreading the manuscript for this book, but nowhere does Dr. Sarno endorse Fred's ideas. Just something to think about...
Like so many others, while Dr. Sarno's book has brought a sense of relief to my mind and back, what it hasn't done is be able to help me make a permanent recovery from TMS. Since first learning I suffer from TMS in 1999, I have had two SEVERE episodes, so severe that I was literally incapable of standing for 72 hours following each of the attacks. Because I know I suffer from TMS, I can (and usually do) rid myself of TMS-related pain within two weeks following an attack. Nonetheless, I would like to rid myself of attacks all together. This is what I was hoping Fred Amir's book would help me do. Alas, it has not.
In conclusion, it is not my intention to disparage Fred's book. I... For those of you out there who suffer from recurrent back pain like me, I know you're looking for that magical solution. Unfortunately, while I was truly hoping this book would be it, it is not. At least not for me. Good luck to all of you as you work against this sinister pain.
AMAZING -- It really works!
Fred Amir's book takes Dr. Sarno's work to new heights

The best book, I've ever seen, on speed reading!
Excellent book for retention and recall
Thorough, with plenty of exercises.I found that even without the background I already had in the methods that Evelyn Wood teaches, the Peter Kump book is excellent and stands on its own. The exercises are explained thoroughly and not only does he teach rapid reading but also teaches comprehension techniques as well.
I was able to triple my speed in a matter of hours. With diligence I should be to able to increase my speed 5-fold,maybe 10-fold. The only other thing the reader should have is a timer or stop watch to help time oneself during the exercises.

A crash course in speed reading
It does not tell you the magic solution.
If you work, this book works.You do have to do the drills in this book over and over; but if you're willing to put in the time, this book will give you the results.
This is one book, I must say, contains the best and most comprehensive collection of text organisational (writing) patterns I have seen so far. In a nut shell, understanding and mastering text organisational (writing) patterns at the onset after your initial preview allow you to navigate the given text at very high speeds.
In total, this book introduces eleven (11) patterns:
- enumeration pattern (listing);
- time sequence;
- example pattern;
- cause & effect pattern;
- problem & solution pattern;
- compare & contrast pattern;
- spatial pattern;
- definition pattern;
- process pattern;
- classification pattern;
- description pattern;
In any kind of reading, a quick preview is imperative. This book also introduces you to a variety of preview techniques, just like any other reading technique books.
Understanding the text organisational (writing) patterns makes your preview much more efficient and effective.
All information has shape. Just take a close look at the word INFORMATION. The root word is FORM. So, if you want to read fast, you must learn to shape or form your understanding quickly. If you can see this FORM at the onset, it becomes much more easier for you to understand how the information in the given text is organised. With this understanding, it become easier and also faster for you to pick out the key ideas or details.
The author has done an excellent job in illustrating all the eleven text organisation (writing) patterns. There are also a lot of reading exercises or practices for you to play, explore and experiment with the patterns. They are really worth the cover price for the book.
I teach kids and teens as well as adults how to read at very high speeds. In other words, I help them to survive...and thrive in...the information overload! From my own personal and professional experiences, the purpose of reading is to GATHER INFORMATION...IDEAS to be more precise. I always advise them ...using Pareto' Law...that 80% of the meaning of any given paragraph are often captured in only 20% of the words...these are the key ideas! (In fact, I have read from somewhere...an empirical study...that 4 to 11 % of any given text contains the key ideas!)
Knowing how to discern text organisational (writing) patterns in the first instance gives you the turbo boost to locate the key ideas very quickly and eventually navigate the reading texts at very high speeds.
If you combine these reading techniques with mindmapping or using graphic organisers and/or other visual tools, your ability to organise and synthesise ideas...and generating insights...from all your reading become very powerful.
So, if you want to be a masterful reader, just like me...this book is a must read!
